Cross River State Government has enrolled a thousand farmers at the Nigeria-Israel Training Centre to learn modern techniques in agriculture.
Governor of the State, Professor Ben Ayade,  who made this known during the Farmers Day celebration in Calabar stated that enhancing food production through modern technologies was his major aim.
In his words  “This is a milestone for our farmers. For the hundreds of farmers we sent to the Nigerian – Israeli Training Centre Abuja, who have been trained on modern farming techniques, I have made a commitment that I am going to give them I-Pads, that will give them digital connectivity to new technologies in farming”.
“I urge you all, every Cross River people should embrace farming. This is the way to go. Farming is the best way to tackle unemployment and poverty, as a government, we are determined to fight poverty through farming.” He added
Ayade stressed that incentives would be given to farmers to aspire to establish agribusinesses in the State, noting that 500 million naira grants have been provided through the just established Calabar Microfinance.
