We’ve trained over 3, 000 youths on Agric value chains-IITA

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), says it has trained about 3,111 youths in various agricultural and agri-business value chains in a period of four years.

IITA Youth Agri-prenuer Programme Capacity Building Expert, Ms. Molayo Owoeye, made this known in Ibadan at the training for media and youths on research evidence dissemination, sponsored by the Institute.

She explained that the training which was delivered through its Youth Agri-prenuer programme was centered on various value chains ranging from cultivating and rearing of poultry, catfish, cassava, and Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP).

“Our target in another five years is to train more 70,000 youths in various other value chains.

“Some of the youths trained are now self-employed,”she said.

Owoeye advised policy makers to involve the youth during policy making for better governance and structure.

“We want our voices to be heard during policy making, when we youths have an enabling environment, we will make more impact and progress,” she said.
