The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Daura Local Government Kastina state says that registration of farmers who will benefit from the dry season anchor borrowers agricultural programme has commenced.
Daura Local Government RIFAN chairman in, Malam Nura Baure, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Daura on Monday noted that the registration was meant to accommodate 6,000 rice farmers in the Local Government.
He explained that the Borrowers Programme would ensure the provision of fertilizers, insecticide and herbicides, seedlings, sprayers and water pumping machines for registered farmers.
According to him, the quantity of input a farmer would receive is determined by the number of hectares registered by the farmer.
He said that distribution of registration form for interested farmers had commenced, noting that intending farmers must be endorsed by a magistrate, district head and a reliable guarantor who stand for an individual or organization of farmers before they qualify for the loan.
On repayment, Baure said that the loan is expected to be paid after a period of one year and farmers are expected to pay in bags of paddy rice or in cash where possible, adding that the payment must tally with the present market value of paddy rice.
