The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) Katsina State, has charged its farmers to refund the loans granted them by the Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP).
The Chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Wakili, who made the call in Daura stated that about 56,000 farmers in 36 Local Government areas of the state benefitted from the ABP loans for their dry season farming in 2017.
Wakili reminded the beneficiaries that the loan repayment period was one year, as stipulated in the preconditions for ABP loans, saying they should refund loans on time to permit others to benefit from the revolving loan scheme.
“We are expecting each farmer to present 10 bags of the paddy rice per hectare, as the number of registered hectares for an individual farmer or group determines the amount of bags that would be presented as repayment.’’ He said.
The RIFAN chairman added that beneficiaries were expected to repay the ABP loans through their local government RIFAN chairmen, adding that adequate measures had been adopted to ensure compliance.
