As part of his administration’s goals of increasing agricultural production in Yobe state, the governor of the state, Ibrahim Gaidam, has directed that NPK Fertilizer previously sold for N8,500, should now be sold at a N3,000 per bag to farmers in the state.
Governor Gaidam announced this on Monday at Damaturu during the launching of the sale of the fertilizers to farmers for the 2018 farming season.
Gaidam said the State Agriculture Ministry had suggested the fertilizer be sold at the subisidised rate of N4, 000 per bag, but having considered critically and to provide more social services to the people, he reduced it to N3,000 that is 65 per cent discount on each bag.
The governor further called on the Fertilizer Distribution and Sales Committees at the local government level to be committed to the cause, urging them to “maintain their credibility by ensuring fairness, transparency and accountability in the sale and distribution process”.
The number one citizen in the State charged benefiting farmers to ensure the product was used to advance farming activities in the state.
He however advised the farmers not to be dissuaded by the “antics of middlemen” who may want to dupe them with the promise of buying at more than the official price.
