An agricultural transformation supporting group, Synergos Nigeria says it will train interested Nigerian Youths on becoming agribusiness entrepreneurs as a measure in expediting the nation’s march to food security.

The Country Director of Synergos, Mr Adewale Ajadi said this in Abuja on Wednesday, May 30, noting that interested Nigerian youths between ages of 18 and 35 would be given the opportunity to become agribusiness entrepreneurs at no cost.

According to the director, the transformation programme would be carried out under its Farm Lab Initiative.

Speaking on the programme, Ajadi explained the initiative is one of its projects called State Partnerships for Agriculture (SPA), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD).

He said: “SPA and the Ministry would be hosting an Agriculture Boot Camp on Livestock Farming, to give interested young Nigerians between ages 18 and 35 an opportunity to become Agribusiness entrepreneurs at no cost.

“The policy intervention in this project is about livestock production and entrepreneur education.”

Ajadi stressed that the purpose of the scheme is to get the youths interested in agriculture and its paraphernalia.

“How do we show them that agriculture is a viable employment and entrepreneur opportunity? Youth Farm Lab is designed to target youths in Ogun, Oyo and Lagos States,” the director added.

He noted that the programme which is set to train over 150 youths will run for a period of six weeks with carefully tailored classes aimed at grooming them to become agricultural entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs Mosumola Umoru lauded the scheme, stating it was a welcome development.

In her remark, she noted that the ministry is providing support and joining forces with Synergos to make sure agriculture looks attractive to the youths.

Umoru said, “We really want the youths and women to be fully involved in developing the country’s agriculture, since they have what it takes to develop the sector and the dynamism to work with any technology.”
