NASC set to hold conference on sustainable framework

The National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) says it will hold a two-day SEEDCONNECT Conference and Expo with a view to effecting positive growth and projecting food sufficiency in the country.

The conference tagged “The Nigerian Seed Industry: Evaluating the Seed Sector and Developing a Sustainable Framework to Bolster the Growth of the Seed Industry,” will hold in June 5 – June 6 2018, in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Issues expected to take centre stage at the convention include; brainstorming sessions on strategies that will improve productivity, framework for growth as well as other matters that call for urgent attention.

A statement by NASC, explained that the conference is a rebrand of the usual annual national seed planning event that brings together key stakeholders to review activities of previous year and draw plans for the current year.

The Director General of the council, Olusegun Ojo, said the convergence will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to review the Nigerian seed sector with a focus on past innovations, success, failure and challenges.

Ojo added that the conference will also recognize critical priority actions to be undertaken by stakeholders to leverage on each other’s strength, scope, scale and operation efficiencies of the sector.

He further noted that, it was imperative to identify critical gaps and develop a strategic framework for scaling up delivery of high quality seed to farmers nationwide.

The conference is expected to be well-attended by important personalities from seed companies, researchers, and other stakeholders that bring their wealth of knowledge to bare – to proffer solutions on the many challenges facing the country’s match to food sufficiency.
